No. 5 Nebraska Sweeps No. 2 Stanford at Devaney Center Wednesday

Huskers Win Fifth Straight Match in Four Sets

The Nebraska volleyball team continued its hot start to the 2023 season on Wednesday night, sweeping No. 2 Stanford in four sets (25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19) at the Devaney Center. The Huskers have now won five straight matches and are 7-1 on the season.

Strong Start Sets the Tone

Nebraska came out firing on all cylinders, hitting .407 in the first set and holding Stanford to a .125 hitting percentage. Madi Kubik led the way with five kills in the set, while Lexi Rodriguez added four kills and three digs.

Huskers Hold Off Stanford in Second Set

The Cardinal came out stronger in the second set, but Nebraska was able to hold them off and win 25-23. Kubik and Rodriguez each had four kills in the set, while Kayla Caffey added three kills and two blocks.

Stanford Takes Third Set

Stanford finally broke through in the third set, winning 25-22. The Cardinal hit .333 in the set, while Nebraska hit just .182. Caffey led the Huskers with five kills in the set, but it wasn't enough to overcome Stanford's strong hitting.

Huskers Finish Strong

Nebraska bounced back in the fourth set, hitting .357 and holding Stanford to a .179 hitting percentage. Kubik had six kills in the set, while Rodriguez added five kills and three digs. The Huskers also got a big boost from freshman Anni Evans, who had four kills and two blocks in the set.

Kubik Leads the Way

Madi Kubik led the Huskers with 20 kills on the night, hitting .382. Lexi Rodriguez added 16 kills, while Kayla Caffey had 11 kills and six blocks. Anni Evans also had a strong night, finishing with eight kills and four blocks.

Nebraska's Defense Shines

The Huskers' defense was also strong on Wednesday night, led by libero Kenzie Knuckles, who had 21 digs. Nebraska also had 12 blocks, led by Caffey's six blocks.

What's Next?

The Huskers will be back in action on Friday night when they host No. 13 Illinois at the Devaney Center. First serve is set for 8 p.m. CT.
